Forgiveness Vespers

On this, the eve of Great Lent, we attend Forgiveness Vespers, being reminded of the Lord's teaching about fasting and forgiveness so that entering the season of the fast forgiving one another...God will forgive us. If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your heavenly Father forgive you your trespasses (Matthew 6:14).

Sunday Orthros & Divine Liturgy

On this last Sunday before Great Lent, the last day before entering the Great Fast, the Church remembers the expulsion of Adam & Eve from Paradise. God commanded them to fast from the fruit of a tree (Gen. 2:16), but they did not obey. In this way Adam and Eve and their descendants became heirs of death and corruption.  We are reminded of our need for God’s forgiveness and our hearts, minds, and spiritual efforts are encouraged to return to God in repentance.

Godparent Sunday

This is our 2nd annual Godparent Sunday at Saint Basil.  Most especially in the 21st century, it's important to purposely cultivate these vital spiritual relationships.  Therefore, kids invite their Godparents to be present with them during Divine Liturgy...and Godparents are encouraged to make sure their Godchildren are present with them to worship together.
